Position:

Temporary Research Assistant

Organisation:

CEM Centre, University of Durham

Dates:

1st August 2002-June/July 2003

I was recommended to this department by my line manager at the Treasurer's Department. He was aware that the CEM Centre are often in need of numerate people and hoped that I might prove useful. There were at this time no permanent vacancies but a variety of work needed doing and I was offered temporary work while there was work available.

In the time I have been at the CEM Centre, my work has included:

  • Performing a literature review of more than a hundred academic papers in the fields of education, sociology, criminology and psychology;
  • Organised and administered a short course in Performance Monitoring for Scottish schools;
  • Organised the set-up of a large-scale project to monitor attitudes and behaviour etc. of all pupils between reception and year eleven in an education authority;
  • Conducted analysis into the efficacy of CEM Centre advertisments;
  • Performed telephone support to schools taking part in projects;
  • Sundry other work as required.
