Jenny Radcliffe's Computing Skills

My computing skills are constantly improving and being worked on.

Subject Competence
Operating Systems

I am a highly proficient Windows user, mostly with XP but also with Windows 98.

I am a competent Linux and UNIX user and have some experience with Linux administration.

Scientific Type-setting and Editing for Publication I am an advanced user of the LATEX typesetting system and have used it for papers, presentations, posters and journals. I have provided introductory and more advanced talks on the subject for the Durham University Computing Society and Linuxbierwanderung.
Proprietary software

In my work I have gained experience and proficiency with a range of systems, including:

  • Forbidden Technologies' software, both for use and for customer demonstration, including FORscene, FORupload, FORingest and the FORmobile player on a range of platforms.
  • Oracle Financials, including the Applications Desktop Integrator
  • The Cyborg Personnel system
  • The Kubernesis Accounts package (designed for charitable groups)
  • EMIS, a patient data system

One of my main strengths is an ability to adapt to new software rapidly and efficiently.

Engineering Software

I have experience with engineering-related software including:

  • Solidworks (both 2003 and 2004);
  • FLUENT 6.1 and accompanying GAMBIT;
  • COSMOS
Web Authoring I comfortably hand-write HTML and XHTML, using cascading stylesheets (CSS), to comply with all specifications. I also put Accessibility to the forefront of my priorities when writing webpages. I have some experience using PHP, using it both with PostGresQL and MySQL databases to create web interfaces to databases, and as a simple template for pages.
Programming As an undergraduate I obtained good marks while studying Fortran. I also have a very limited experience of using Perl.
